Tell us a little about you/
"We are two sisters, Shannon and Helen, who decided about a year ago that we really enjoyed making jewelry and would like to make more of it, but needed extra money to do so, so we thought it would be a good idea to start selling our jewelry online. We both have full time jobs and have not been able to devote as much time as we would like to to making and selling jewelry. We are slowly building up our inventory and trying to develop a little bit of a web presence. Shannon is the older sister, and currently the one most likely to be posting in the Artfire forums and on our blog, Facebook, and Twitter pages. She never felt she was a very creative person growing up and never did a lot of art classes, but after surviving uterine cancer a few years ago, she started to feel like something was missing in her life and began looking for a creative outlet. Since then, she's taken up jewelry making and also enjoys taking classes not only in jewelry making, but in mixed media art, journaling, and anything else that sounds fun and fits into her schedule and her budget. Helen is the younger sister, she's married and has an almost 4 year old whose birthday will be next month. She's busy with her family and her job and training for a half marathon coming up in the fall. She's always been creative and was involved in art and drama classes throughout junior high and high school, and after trying a more traditional college, ended up graduating from culinary school. Jewelry making is just the latest pursuit in a life full of creative and artistic endeavors."
How and when did you guys get started?
"We started making jewelry just a few years ago, but quickly developed a love for it. We decided that we should try to sell our jewelry so that we'd have money to make more jewelry."
A little about the earrings and how you came to make it.
"Well, first of all, I should say, these earrings were made by Shannon, just so you know who's answering here. Honestly, I'd ordered the beads online when I was ordering some other stuff, just because I thought they looked cool. And then they sat in my stash for a while, and I'd pull them out and play with them and try to figure out what to do with them, but for a while, nothing really seemed quite right. I knew I wanted to do something that left them hanging free, because I love the sound they make as they move and bump into each other -- it's sort of like a very delicate windchime. That's an odd thing to think about for jewelry, but it's what had struck me most about those beads as I picked them up and played with them, so I decided to go with it. I do also love the way they look. They're big enough to make a statement, but in that classic mother-of-pearl finish that looks good with any color. I also thought the combination of circles and squares was just a lot of fun. I don't necessarily put a whole lot of planning and design into pieces, I just start putting stuff together and if I like the way it looks, I go with it, and if I don't, I take it apart and start over. "
What are your favorite animals and colors?
"Shannon - Cats, and red. Or maybe blue. And sometimes green. And all of them look better if they're sparkly.
Helen - Koala bears, and pink."
